British gambling operator doesn’t bet on Romania anymore

04 June 2015

British online gambling operator William Hill has decided to withdraw from Romania’s market. The decision was due to changes in law which imposes high taxes on gambling, according to the company, reports local Mediafax.

The Romanian gamblers’ accounts at William Hill have been suspended starting June 2, but they can still check their accounts and withdraw money.

According to the gambling operator, the Romanian Government changed laws to bring additional state revenues. The new regulations include the increase in the licensing tax from RON 400,000 (about EUR 90,000) to RON 448,000 (EUR 100,000).
