Modular hospital for Covid-19 patients built by Bucharest City Hall set to open

21 July 2020

The modular hospital for Covid-19 patients, built as an external section of the city’s Victor Babeș Hospital, is set to open urgently, given the evolution of the pandemic in the country, Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea said, Mediafax reported.

The medical facility was built by the Municipal Consolidation Company of the Bucharest City Hall.

At first, 100 of the hospital’s 500 beds will be available. The hospital will treat mild cases.

The doctors working here come from the Victor Babeș Hospital, and the auxiliary and support staff will be deployed from other hospitals the City Hall administers.

The contracts for cleaning and catering services will be closed in the coming days, and the hospital will open once it receives approval from the Bucharest Public Health Department (DSP).

The mayor also said that the number of intensive care beds in the hospitals managed by the Bucharest City Hall would increase.

“So far, while the Colentina Hospital was a Covid-19 support hospital, the medical unit offered 31 intensive care beds, 14 of which are still used at the moment. After the Colentina Hospital started treating patients with other illnesses, this medical unit [...]  will make available six intensive care beds for Covid-19 patients in serious condition,” Firea said.
