Bucharest adds EUR 6 mln water polo pool
A new water polo pool was opened within the Ghencea Sports Club in Bucharest, with an investment of some EUR 6.2 million. This is the first covered water polo pool in Bucharest and covers 843 sqm with water 2.3 meters deep. The building that hosts the pool also includes a training pool on some 312 sqm, with a variable depth of 1.2 to 1.6 meters. The building covers three floors, and includes areas for the public. It was built by the construction company Erbasu, which won the tender for this project.
This was part of the wider development program for swimming pools in Romania, which was approved in 2007 and started with pilot projects in 2008 and 2009.
Only four of the 30 contracted swimming pools were finalized, as well as the polo pool. Another 12 are being built, while 13 have been contracted, but work is yet to start.
The new pool was inaugurated with a water polo match on Wednesday, December 5.
