Bucharest, the capital of love: Martisor fair, concerts and shows organized in Universitatii Square
The first edition of Bucharest, the capital of love event will be organized in Universitatii Square from February 24 to March 8.
The event’s program includes a martisor fair (small items tied with red and white strings, which men give to women in Romania on March 1), concerts and shows.
The name of the event is linked to Dragobete, the Romanian celebration of love, marked on February 24. Moreover, Romanians also welcome spring on March 1 with their special martisor tradition, and celebrate women on March 8 - the International Women’s Day.
The martisor fair will stay open for 13 days. From February 24 to March 2 and on March 6 and March 7 the fair will be opened between 10:00 and 21:00, from March 3 to March 5 will stay open between 10:00 and 22:00, and on March 8 will be opened between 10:00 and 22:30. Visitors will not find only martisoare at the fair, but also other kind of gifts, such as jewelry, flowers, decorations, handmade products, cakes, and candies.
Dragobete, the Romanian lovers day, will be celebrated with a series of Romanian music concerts, scheduled for February 24, February 25, and February 26. The program will start at 17:30, and will include concerts held by Romanian artists such as Silviu Biris, Lavinia Goste, Luminita Anghel, Oana Sirbu, Aurelian Temisan, Ovidiu Komornyik, Nico, Marcel Pavel, Corina Chiriac, Monica Anghel, Mirabela Dauer, Gabriel Cotabita, Bosquito, Andreea Banica, Paula Seling, Elena Gheorghe, Corina, Andrei Lazar, Vlad Mirita, Mircea Baniciu, Ducu Bertzi, and Ionut Ungureanu. They will be accompanied by Valahia National Orchestra, conducted by Marius Zorila.
On March 3 and 4, artists and bands from the alternative rock and underground music scene in Romania will entertain the public, the lineup including OCS, Travka, Moonlight Breakfast, Jurjak, The Mono Jacks, The Kryptonite Sparks, Sophisticated Lemons, Luna Amara, Helen, Toulouse Lautrec, Lucia & Muse Quartet, and Camioane in multime.
Moreover, on March 5, the visitors will be able to see live the Eurovision Romania final on huge screen installed in the square. The broadcast will start at 20:30.
