Bucharest City Hall wants to give 25,000 more bike vouchers
The Bucharest City Hall wants to grant 25,000 more vouchers worth RON 500 (EUR 109) each for acquiring a bike.
The draft proposal will be discussed in the next meeting of the General Council of Bucharest, reports local News.ro.
This would be the second stage of a project the Bucharest City Hall launched at the end of July. The municipality then granted 5,000 vouchers for the acquisition of bikes. Over 30,000 people applied for vouchers, so the City Hall decided to increase the number.
The vouchers can be used to acquire both a normal or an electric bike or a scooter.
Local NGOs have been critical of the City Hall’s decision to increase the number of vouchers. They said that Bucharest has no bike lanes and that the money could be used to create proper infrastructure for biking.
