07 January 2011

Irish band U2 could perform in Bucharest in September this year, inaugurating the Lia Manoliu stadium in the Romanian capital city, if the discussions with the band's representative will reach an agreement, according to Mediafax newswire, quoting sources in the Bucharest City Hall.

“We know for sure there will be a concert in September expected to gather 60,000 people. There are talks with a a company promotinh the band U2. If it will not be U2, then it will be one of the best five-six bands […],” said Bogdan Hreapca, head of investments in the Bucharest City Hall.

“It is true we would like to bring a band like U2 in Romania to inaugurate the stadium, but it is still early to say whether we will manage to do so,” Hreapca went on.

U2 are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 1976. The group consists of Bono (vocals and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboards and vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen, Jr. (drums and percussion).

The band's current tour, the 360 tour, will include concerts in South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Brasil, Mexico, US and Canada. See where they will play in the first half of 2011 here.
