Bucharest City Hall plans to set up company to manage cemeteries

02 June 2017

The Bucharest City Hall is looking to set up a company that would manage, maintain and clean the cemeteries in the city, according to a project to be discussed by the Bucharest General Council (CGMB), News.ro reported.

This would add to the list of companies the municipality is setting up to handle various public utility activities that are now delegated to private companies or departments within the city hall.

The new company would have a social capital of minimum RON 120,000 (EUR 26,670) to be able to run its operations and “face the competition in this sector.”

“The city of Bucharest, through its executive authority, found as necessary and opportune the establishment of an entity that would ensure an efficient organization of the activity of managing, maintaining, cleaning and sanitizing of the dedicated spaces, and organize a coherent and transparent flux of the procedure of granting the burial places and their listing,” according to the motivation for the project.

On April 11, the CGMB approved the establishment of several public utilities companies for the information technology, sports, transport, advertising, security, public lighting, real estate, green space maintenance, civic protection and volunteering and sanitizing.

On March 29, the CGMB approved the establishment of another series of public utilities companies for sustainable development, energy, consolidations, streets, parking, traffic management, tourism, and parks and gardens.

The municipality also decided to set up a construction company that should build social homes, the Metropolitan Building Trust.
