Bucharest commuters promised same type of ticket for metro, bus and regional train this year
The Bucharest Metropolitan Transport Authority plans to merge tariff systems for the public transport in Bucharest, the capital's metro, the regional railways and private transport operators by the beginning of June this year. This means commuters in Bucharest could use the same type of ticket for the bus, metro and train. The strategy features combined transport tickets for all these means of transport and sharing the revenues among all operators, according to Adrian Crit, the head of the Metropolitan Authority. Authorities also consider an hourly type of payment for public transport.
The existing plastic card system in Bucharest's metro and above the ground public transport system will be further upgraded, after the Bucharest Public Transport Company (RATB) switched from the historic paper tickets to plastic cards last year. A one-way trip in Bucharest's public transport system costs RON 1.3 (around EUR 0.3).
