Bucharest Court rules that medical personnel’s strike is illegal

04 November 2016

The Bucharest Court’s judges decided yesterday that the strike of the medical staff in the public sector, represented by the Sanitas union, was illegal.

The court’s decision is not final, but is enforceable, reports local News.ro.

The medical personnel in the public healthcare system went on strike on Monday. However, unions already announced on Tuesday that the strike would be suspended, after the Parliament committees promised they would vote salary increases.

The MPs decided to increase the bonuses for all medical personnel and to increase the base salaries for the employees of the National Health Insurance House (CNAS). The Parliament will vote the new measures, which also include salary increases for other public employees, next week.

The Government has been opposing these wage increases saying that they will increase Romania’s budget deficit next year. The Health Ministry submitted the demand to cancel the medical personnel’s strike on Tuesday at the Bucharest Court.

The Romanian Post employees have ended their own strike this week, after receiving a raise of RON 80 per month per employee.
