19 January 2011

The Cervantes Institute in Bucharest will organize a Flamenco festival meant to shine a different light on this genre and showcase the flamenco art in different ways: through music, dance and film. The event “Classic Flamenco and its new genres” will start on February 4 and will finish on March 10. On the opening day, a show featuring the guitarist Rafael Andujar, the singer Jesús Chozas and the dancers Ana Alonso and Juanma Carillo will take place at ArCuB. This show will be played two more times on February 5 and 6 at Sala Radio.

On February 9, José María Gallardo del Rey will perform a guitar recital at the Romanian Athenaeum and on February 10 at Sala Radio. The pianist Rosa Torres Pardo will perform a solo concert at the Romanian Athenaeum on February 16, while violinist Ara Malikian and guitarist José Luis Montón will perform a duet on February 21 and 22, also at the Athenaeum. On February 26 and 27, Soniquete de Jérez will perform two pop-flamenco concerts at ArCuB while between March 4 and 10, Studio Cinema will screen a series of fiction movies and documentaries about flamenco.

UNESCO has recently added Flamenco to their intangible heritage because the genre is considered to be an art itself. For more details about this series of events related to flamenco, contact the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest e-mail cenbuc@cervantes.es, , telephone +40210.27.37.
