Bucharest has become an important tourist destination for city breaks, with over 1.51 million guests registered in nearly 400 accommodation places, according to the tourism consultants who initiated the project BookingBucharest.ro.

Bucharest has a lot of events, and the city is safe, said tourism consultant Dan Anghelescu, cited by local Agerpres.

The capital’s accommodation capacity has increased significantly in the last 15 years. In 2000, Bucharest had 7,422 accommodation places whereas the city now offers almost 20,000 places.

In 2014, Bucharest had 1.5 million tourists. Over 864,000 of them were foreigners and about 646,000 were Romanians.
