Bucharest mayor’s husband, investigated for allegedly beating a man who wanted to talk to his wife

30 November 2016

Voluntari mayor Florentin Pandele, Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea’s husband, is being investigated for assault and battery, after local media published a video of Pandele allegedly assaulting a man.

Police sources said that the police officers of Ilfov County Police Department have taken action and opened a criminal case, which they already sent to the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Buftea Court, according to local News.ro.

Pandele will be heard by the Buftea prosecutors.

Bogdan Dinulescu, the man who was allegedly assaulted by the Voluntary mayor, was summoned to hearings at the headquarters of the Ilfov police, where he will be able to file a complaint.

According to police sources, Florentin Pandele had a fight with Bogdan Dinulescu and assaulted him, and the incident was captured by a surveillance camera. The video was leaked on Facebook.

Dinulescu told TV channel Realitatea TV that the Voluntary mayor took a revenge on him after he had tried to approach his wife, Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea. The incident occurred near the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest. Dinulescu said he wanted to ask Firea when would the traffic in Bucharest be normal.

The video, which was posted on Facebook, shows the two men talking near a car. At some point, one of them starts hitting his interlocutor. During the discussion, the victim is hit several times.

Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea defended her husband saying that it was a dirty attack. “It's a miserable campaign show. I have nothing to comment. They are capable of anything,” the Bucharest mayor told local Evz.ro.

Bogdan Dinulescu became known in July 2014 when he waited for the media mogul Dan Voiculescu, the owner of the Antena group, in front of the Ilfov police station, and threw several banknotes at him accusing him of having destroyed the country’s economy. Voiculescu was under judicial control at that time and now he is serving a prison sentence for benefiting from an illegal privatization.
