Bucharest metro commuters can travel through Europe for one afternoon

09 May 2014

Bucharest metro commuters will get to delve into the cultures, music and cuisines from other European countries on Friday afternoon, May 9, on Europe’s Day. They will see the Netherlands through costumes and images, but only if they pass by the Grozavesti metro station. The Bucharest metro company Metrorex has chosen European country names for some of its stations to mark the occasion.

Victoriei Square will be Sweden for one day, and will welcome commuters with traditional music, books and sweets for kids. In Finland, temporarily relocated to the Eroilor metro station, a traditional Christmas story was put together, featuring Christmas trees decorated with Finnish ornaments.

There will be Irish music and dance at the Aurel Vlaicu station in Pipera, as well as an ad-hoc pub.
Those who pass by the Romana metro stations will go French with traditional food, as well as music and images from France. Dance and music a la Grec will take over the downtown metro station of Universitate, Metrorex announced.

In total, 21 metro stations will temporarily change names on Europe’s Day. The Bucharest metro map with all these stations is below.
