26 February 2014

The Bucharest Municipality wants to file Bucharest’s candidacy for the European Capital of Culture in 2021, according to a draft decision.

Other Romanian cities have also entered the race for this title, such as Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iasi, Craiova and Arad, the national competition to choose the city that will represent Romania is scheduled for 2015.

“The European Capital of Culture is already considered an event that can totally change the life of a city and mark its future. The process of accession to the title of European Capital of Culture starts six years before and is mainly a process of change for the city, for its image, its infrastructure, for its cultural sector and the inhabitants, and these changes usually have positive effects, many years after the Cultural Capital Year ends,” reads the draft decision.

Romania’s Sibiu was designated the European Capital of Culture in 2007.
