Bucharest Symphony Orchestra members to wear traditional Romanian blouses during The Beatles themed concert
The traditional Romanian blouse called Ie is making a strong comeback, after stirring more interest with everyone from fashion designers to online communities. This time, the 70 members of the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, who will perform in the concert The Beatles interpreted by Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, on Monday, May 13, will all wear Romanian blouses, to create a connection between the Romanian and British cultures. The blouses will be provided by local producer Iiana and are handmade in Romania.
The initiative came following a partnership between concert organizers Phoenix Entertainment and the online community LaBlouseRoumaine on Facebook. The community will celebrate the international day of the Romanian blouse Ie on June 24, when the Sanziene holiday is also celebrated.
It is not the first time in history when Romanian and foreign traditions mix to promote the Romanian blouse. During the interwar period, Queen Mary, granddaughter of Britain's Queen Victoria, became a true ambassador of the Romanian Ie. In 1940, Henri Matisse painted the famous La blouse roumaine.
Tickets for the concert on Monday evening at the Sala Palatului are still available on eventim.ro at RON 200, 160, 110, 80 and 50.
