Bucharest welcomes new French bookshop Kyralina and Pascal Bruckner for official opening

23 November 2012

A new French bookshop will have its official opening in Bucharest today (November 23 ). The bookshop, called Kyralina and located on 8 George Enescu St., will welcome French writer Pascal Bruckner for the official opening at 19,00 on Friday (November 23 ). For the public, the bookshop will open on November 24.

The majority of the books sold in the bookshop will be in French – 80 percent, but some will also be in German, as well as Romanian translation of French and German authors. The bookshop will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, with a nocturnal event on Thursdays. A terrace will be open in the bookshop's villa yard during spring and summer. The name of the bookshop was inspired by the novel Kira Kyralina, by Romanian author Panait Istrati, who also wrote in French.

The project is partially funded by the Lagardère foundation's grant to Sidonie Mézaize, who was  in charge of the Book Office for the French Embassy to Bucharest. She founded the bookshop together with a partner.
