Bucharest's National Theater revamping completed, new building inaugurated this week
Work ended on the revamped building of the National Theater in Bucharest TNB, which was inaugurated on Monday, November 10, in the presence of the institution’s management and several politicians, including Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
The building was revamped and modernized with an investment of some EUR 60 million. The project initially started from the need to strengthen the building against earthquakes, reports local Mediafax. The official handover will happen on November 30, after which the constructor has three extra months for final touches. The first show to be staged in the Great Hall will be directed by Dan Puric, and will probably happen sometime next spring.
Following the revamping, TNB will have seven auditoriums, four of which are new. One of them is located on the roof and will host summer representations, while another one is dedicated to young people.
The Great Hall regained its original shape and will most likely host the first show in the spring. The hall no longer includes the official lodge commissioned by former communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, reports Mediafax. Besides the main stages, the new building will host art galleries, cafeterias, a large bookshop, and small halls for events.
Revamping work was carried out by Aedificia Carpaţi and Romest Electronic, and took a year longer than initially planned.
