Bulgarian Monbat opens used lead-acid batteries recycling unit in Romania

10 June 2011

Bulgarian company Monbat Recycling has invested EUR 13 million in its recently opened plant for recycling of used lead-acid batteries, the company has announced. The investment has been made within the last three years. The factory in Romania is located near the Bucharest ring road and Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc and his Bulgarian counterpart Boiko Borisov attended the inauguration ceremony on Thursday.

The company expects the factory to process annually between 15,000 and 16,000 tonnes of lead and lead alloys. However, the capacity of the installation for crushing used lead and lead alloys is 40,000 tonnes annually and that of the metallurgical section, of 22,000 tonnes annually. The processes lead and lead alloys will be placed on the European Union market as well as in other countries, including for production of batteries of the parent company in Bulgaria.

This is the second foreign plant for recycling of used lead-acid batteries that Monbat Plc opens, after the inauguration of the one in Serbia in September last year. Monbat Recycling is part of Prista Oil, owned by Bulgarian brothers Plamen and Atanas Bobokov (the latter in picture to the right, courtesy of Monbat).
