Buyers donate late Romanian dictator Ceausescu's Communist Party card to a museum

26 March 2015

The Communist Party card that belonged to Romania’s late dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was recently sold at an auction organized by Artmark, for EUR 2,000.  The buyers, who didn’t want to reveal their identity, will donate the card to a museum, reports local Mediafax.

All Communist Party members had such a red card, which proved their allegiance to the Communist Party PCR. Ceausescu’s card reveals some less-known details about Ceausescu, such as his father’s liberal past. The starting price for the item was EUR 300.

“The Golden Age” auction, organized on Wednesday, March 25, registered an awarding rate of 67.24%, the total sales amounting to some EUR 39,000.

Some of the event’s stars were Constantin Artachino’s Scanteia painting - sold for EUR 4,500, a special made Tressa hand watch, gold plated, which Mexican Interior Minister Mario Moya Palencia offered to Nicolae Ceausescu, accompanied by a RAPPS certificate – sold for EUR 2,750 and a Gucci purse that belonged to Elena Ceausescu – EUR 1,400.

An emblem of the Romanian Communist Party from the 70s was also auctioned for EUR 250, while two ties that belonged to Nicolae Ceausescu were sold for EUR 100 each.

A lot of four packs of Romanian cigarettes from that time - Mărăşeşti, Dacia, Snagov and Carpati – was auctioned for EUR 50, while a lot of four packs of import cigarettes - Kent, BT, Vikend and DS – was sold for EUR 100.

Collectors also purchased others paintings, posters and items from that era, also known as The Golden Era.
