Cable company RCS&RDS announces two new channels from BBC for Romania and Hungary

05 December 2012

The internet and cable TV provider  RCS&RDS announced that on December 1 they added the channel BBC Entertainment for Romania and Hungary. From January 1, 2013, RCS&RDS will also broadcast BBC Knowledge, according to a press release by the company.

BBC Knowledge broadcasts documentaries and information/entertainment programs, including Wonders of the Universe, heavy machinery show Crash Course by Top Gear's Richard Hammond and Science Club presented by Dara O’Brian, an Irish comedian with penchant for science.

Also BBC Entertainment will show a range of comedies and dramas from the BBC and of the independent British channels, such as hospital drama Casualty, as Alan Carr's chat show, hit comedies the Royle Family, Blackadder and Fawlty Towers, as well as films, series and adaptations.

The move follows closely after RCS&RDS cut all Discovery Channel programming - the latest development in a long running feud between the two.

BBC Worldwide Limited is the main commercial arm and a wholly owned subsidiary of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The firm operates in five basic sectors: channels, content and production, sales and distribution, consumer products and brands. During 2011 - 2012, BBC Worldwide generated profits of GBP 155 million overall from global sales of over GBP 1 billion.

RCS&RDS is a telecommunications operator based in Romania, with services in Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Spain and Italy.
