Carlyle reportedly no longer seeking partner for Black Sea offshore perimeter
Carlyle International Energy Partners, the US fund that controls Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG) – the operator of the Midia Gas Development (MGD) project in the Black Sea, has reportedly changed its mind about seeking a partner, according to sources familiar with the deal quoted by Ziarul Financiar.
After beginning operations in mid-2022, BSOG has already extracted 1 billion cubic meters out of the 10 billion estimated to be in the deposit.
In October last year, Carlyle started a strategic evaluation process of the project to prepare the company for a new stage of growth by finding a partner. Several companies, including Romgaz, were reportedly interested.
However, the regulatory uncertainty dissipated (the solidarity contribution is not applicable to BSOG) in the meantime.
