Carrefour’s sales go up in Romania due to the VAT cut
French retailer Carrefour’s sales strongly increased in Romania in the third quarter of the year. The advance was due to the VAT cut on food and non-alcoholic beverages, introduced by the Government on June 1, according to the group’s quarterly reports.
Romania thus contributed to the increase in the group’s revenues, which reached EUR 21.5 billion.
In France, Carrefour’s sales rose by 2.3% to EUR 10.3 billion, whereas the group’s international sales increased by 2.2% to EUR 11.3 billion. The sales in Spain increased by 4.6% whereas those in Italy went up by 5.9%.
The sales dropped in Asia, due to the low consumption in China. However, the company’s turnover in Latin America increased.
The sales in Romania started to grow after introducing the VAT cut on food.
