First village in RO placed under quarantine under new regulations
The first area placed under quarantine in Romania, under the new legislation that came in force on July 21, is Cartojani: a locality in southern county Giurgiu, with more than 3 cases per 1,000 inhabitants, Mediafax reported.
Cartojani was quarantined, according to an order signed by Raed Arafat, the head of the state body tackling the coronavirus crisis.
The quarantine entered into force on Wednesday, at 17:00, for a period of 14 days.
The decision was made because there are 32 people infected with coronavirus through community transmission in that village.
"Following the epidemiological investigation carried out on the spot, 37 people were identified who came into direct contact with one of the cases mentioned above, the epidemiological risk being of maximum gravity," the order says.
The percentage of infection is above the threshold of 3 cases per 1,000 inhabitants.
The quarantine proposal came from the local office of the public sanitary body DSP Giurgiu, which found that the risk of community spread cannot be controlled through other methods.
