Cash in Romania's economy, up almost 18%
The cash in circulation in Romania exceeded RON 54.79 billion (EUR 12.2 billion) at the end of December last year, up 17.8% year-on-year, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR).
Meanwhile, the current accounts and overnight deposits rose by 21.5% to over RON 125.2 billion (EUR 27.8 billion).
The broad money supply, including cash, current accounts, as well as long term deposits, reached around EUR 314 billion (EUR 70 billion) at the end of December.
The total non-governmental loans stood at RON 220 billion (EUR 49 billion), up 1.2% compared to end-December 2015. The government loans amounted to EUR 20.7 billion, up 4.1% compared to 2015.
