Central Bank: IMF has coordinated economic policies in Romania
The greatest benefit Romania has had in relation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is that the institution has assumed the role of coordinating economic policies, said Mugur Isarescu, governor of the Romanian National Bank.
Romanian institutions don’t communicate with each other, and the IMF has tried to connect the work of various institutions, Isarescu said, reports local Agerpres.
An international mission of the IMF, the European Commission and World Bank is currently visiting Romania until May 26.
Most Romanian banks (68%) are open to a new agreement with IMF, from a financial stability perspective, according to a survey carried out by consultancy EY Romania and the Romanian Banking Association.
The third stand-by agreement which Romania closed with the international financial institutions in 2013 expires on September 27.
