What changes did the top ten Romanian insurers undergo?

The top ten local insurance companies went through a few changes in the first six months of the year compared to the end of last year.

Bulgarian insurer Euroins climbed to the 5th position from the 8th place and Austrian company Uniqa exited the top ten. Allianz-Tiriac remained the market’s leader, with underwritings of almost EUR 120 million, up by 7% compared to the first half of 2014, according to the Financial Supervisory Authority’s half year report.

The insurer Omniasig, which is part of the Vienna Insurance Group (VIG), ranked second. It increased its turnover by 19% year-on-year up to EUR 103 million.

Astra Asigurari, whose license was recently revoked by the ASF due to financial problems, was third in terms of revenues in the first six months, with EUR 99 million, and a 10% market share. French company Groupama and Bulgarian company Euroins came next.

Euroins, Astra Asigurari, and Carpatica Asig, the companies with the biggest financial problems in the local market, continued to be the biggest players in the mandatory car insurance segment, with a cumulated market share of 60% in the first half of the year.
