Charging stations for electric cars in Romanian cities with over 100,000 people

06 June 2017

Each Bucharest district will need to have at least ten public recharge points for electric vehicles by 2020 whereas cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants will need to have at least five such stations.

The costs will be covered by the Environment Ministry and local budget, according to a draft law signed by 20 liberal MPs, reports local Ziarul Financiar. Each station should be able to charge four cars.

Liberal MP Glad Varga explained that the sales of electric cars in Romania tripled last year, and that the country currently has about 600 electric cars. He explained that the current infrastructure is insufficient because there are about 100 charging stations in the country.

Rompetrol Downstream opened last month its first gas station equipped with charging stations for electric cars. The station is located on the Chitila Road in Bucharest.
