Charity mountain bike Wine Marathon expects 600 participants this year
The fourth edition of the charity mountain bike race Maratonul Vinului (Wine Marathon) will take place on June 8 in Urlati, Prahova county, 80 km away from Bucharest. This year, the event aims to attract 600 participants to the four different races.
This year, for the first time, the event also includes a non-competitive race consisting of a single lap of 18 km, without timing, dedicated to people new to mountain biking, who just want to test their skills, without having to race against the clock or cover distances they are not yet ready for.
In the competitive races, participants can chose between distances of 36 km and 54 km, meaning two or three laps. The age limit is 14, and those aged between 14 and 17 need a written permission from their parents or guardians to take part in the races.
The race starts and finishes in the front of the town hall building in Urlati.
The event also includes a Family Race, which follows a separate route and is made for children, parents, or anyone wanting to enjoy a bike ride of some 10 km.
Maratonul Vinului aims to combine the promotion of cycling as a healthy and environmental-friendly way of life with the idea of giving to charity, by donating any profits resulting from the event to local charities. This year, the event will again support the Bucuria Ajutorului Foundation, which runs a day center for children from disadvantaged families in Urlati.
Register or find more information about the event here www.maratonulvinului.ro. Entry fees are RON 50 or RON 80.
