Chinese builder interested in EUR 1.5 bln suspended highway project for the Romanian capital

Chinese company Shanghai Urban Construction Group (SUCG) is interested in building the planned cross-city suspended highway and will examine the possibility of forming a Chinese consortium for the entire project implementation, said Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu.

Oprescu and the representatives of the Chinese company discussed the possibility of a public-private partnership project. The new road will be 13.15 km long and include bridges, subterranean passages and flyovers with the completion date currently set for 2016.

The general mayor also met on Friday (October 12 ) with representatives of Artimpeks LTD, another company interested in the project, which has also requested relevant technical information, according to the municipality.

The technical and economic indicators of the feasibility study for the suspended highway were approved on August 31 2012 by the General Council of the Municipality Bucharest, with investment estimated at over EUR 1.5 billion.

SUCG International Engineering, which has a turnover of EUR 5 billion per year, is specialized in infrastructure works and construction of bridges and tunnels.
