Christian Karembeu to bring FIFA World Cup Trophy to Romania in March

20 February 2014

Romania might not be going to the World Cup in Brazil this year, but the world cup will come and visit anyway.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy will be on display for the second time in Romania this March, when it will be exhibited at the Baneasa Shopping City mall in Northern Bucharest.

The trophy will be on display at the mall between March 3 and 5, and will be brought to Romania by Coca Cola.

Former world champion Christian Karembeu, now a FIFA ambassador, will accompany the Trophy to Bucharest. Former Romanian football player Ilie Dumitrescu, who attended three consecutive World Cups back in the day, will be Romania's Ambassador for the World Cup Trophy.

After Romania, the cup will be taken to the Czech Republic, and then to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The 2013/14 Trophy Tour will visit 88 countries during its 267-day duration. The first time the original FIFA World Cup Trophy made this tour was in 2006, and this is the third time that the football symbol is going on tour around the world.

Romania last year missed out on entering next year’s World Cup in Brazil going down to Greece in the last qualifying round.

The country national football team has dropped another position in the FIFA rankings to 33rd.
