Romanian Police seize 7.5 million cigarettes
The Romanian Police seized 7.5 million cigarettes in less than two months, between February 16 and April 5, according to an official announcement.
They carried out 5,200 control activities, checked 9,952 companies and made 783 searches. They discovered 32 clandestine storage units and 14 cigarette manufacturing facilities
The Police found 1,610 offenses, 1,019 of which caught during the act. They applied 20,079 sanctions worth RON 6.2 million (EUR 1.4 million) and seized assets worth RON 3.2 million (EUR 725,000). Of the 1,619 offenses, 1,116 were smuggling, 71 tax evasion and 157 were Fiscal Code breaches.
