Romanian PM Ciuca officially runs for top seat in Liberal Party
Prime minister Nicolae Ciuca announced on Wednesday, April 6, that he had taken steps to run for the position of president of the Liberal Party (PNL).
He is reportedly going to be the sole candidate for the top position in the elections scheduled for April 10.
"I decided to submit my candidacy for the position of PNL president. I decided to take on this responsibility after a discussion with my colleagues," Nicolae Ciucă stated in a press statement quoted by News.ro.
The prime minister said that "it is important for the party to have harmony and a focus on its objectives''.
Former PNL president Florin Citu resigned over the weekend under pressure from his colleagues that found that he was disturbing the harmony of the coalition with the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
