Code Yellow for ice in Romania, some highways and national roads closed
Meteorologists issued a Code Yellow for ice in 16 counties of Romania, including its capital Bucharest, as well as on the A1, A2 and A3 highways and national roads connecting to these highways. Drivers are required to be cautious and avoid trips if possible. The Code Yellow is estimated to end sometime around noon today.
The A2 highway, covered in ice, was closed from Bucharest to the kilometer 80 towards Constanta, and a similar measure was taken for the road connecting Bucharest to Giurgiu, according to the Romanian Police.
Over 21 minor car crashes occurred on Friday night and morning (January 11 ) in Romania because of the glaze. Over 380 cops have been together with the National Highways Company to clear the affected roads.
On the national road DN6 in Mehedinti county, nine cars crashed because of the ice , causing a stop in traffic. Three people were injured but are now stable.
