Communications revenues up in Romania in first half of 2012, service bundles increasingly popular

18 December 2012

Romania's total communications industry revenues in the first half of 2012 reached EUR 1.7 billion, up 3.5 percent on the same period last year, according to  Romania's communications authority ANCOM. There has also been an increasing uptake of communications services bundles, or integrated deals that comprise two or more services.

At mid-2012 there were 5.5 million subscribers to communications bundles, a 68.5 percent rise on a year earlier. Of the total, 3.77 million were two service bundles and 1.73 million included three or more services, representing 105.5 percent and 21.5 percent year-on-year increases respectively, according to figures published December 18 by Romania's communications authority ANCOM.

Most sectors saw increases in revenues, with the exception of fixed line telephony and leased line services. Internet access services brought in around EUR 250 million, a 16.2 percent increase compared to the first half of 2011. Mobile telephony revenues were up slightly by 0.1 percent in the first half of 2012 to reach some EUR 615 million. Television services, or more accurately “linear audiovisual media programme retransmission to end-users” in ANCOM-speak, recorded a 2.6 percent increase in revenues in the first six months of 2012 year-on-year to give a total of around EUR 181 million.
