Romania's construction sector continued decline in April
The volume of construction work in Romania went down by 4.1% in April compared to the same month of last year, in gross terms, after an 11.9% drop in March, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The residential construction segment saw a decline of 24.4% in April. Meanwhile, the non-residential construction segment increased by 4.7% year-on-year and the engineering work, which includes infrastructure projects, went up 3.7%.
The volume of new construction work dropped by 11.4% while the volume of maintenance and current repairs increased by 17.1% and the volume of capital repairs increased by 12.7%.
In the first four months of this year, the volume of construction work declined by 2.7% over the same period of 2017. Last year was also a bad year for the construction sector, with a 5.4% drop determined mainly by lower engineering work.
