More than 1,000 coronavirus cases confirmed in Romania in 24 hours

A total of 1,014 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Romania in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 72,208 on Tuesday, August 18, according to the official daily report

Most new cases were reported in Bucharest (135), Vaslui (69), and Prahova (49). 

Separately from the new cases, a total of 715 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection. 

More than 1.54 million tests were performed in Romania so far, of which 21,289 in the last 24 hours. 

A total of 33,135 patients were declared cured so far, and 8,316 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis. 

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 3,074. A total of 45 deaths were reported between August 17 (10:00) and August 18 (10:00), in the age categories of 40-49 years (2 deaths), 50-59 years (7 deaths), 60-69 years (11 deaths), and 70-79 years (17 deaths), and 80+ years (8 deaths). Forty-three of the patients had previous medical conditions. 

The number of COVID-19 patients treated in intensive care units was 479 on Tuesday, August 18. In total, 7,118 coronavirus patients are hospitalized.  

More than 9,600 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 5,648 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 26,956 people are under quarantine at home, and 10 are in institutionalized quarantine.

According to a weekly report of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), 32% of the total COVID-19 cases reported in Romania in the week August 10-16 were registered in Bucharest and the counties of Prahova, Arges, Bihor, and Timis, local Digi24 reported. Also, 27% of coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Prahova, Arges, Timis, Bacau, and Bihor counties.
