Coronavirus: Daily cases jump to over 1,400 in Romania

The Romanian authorities confirmed 1,409 new cases of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, according to the official daily report released on Wednesday, August 19. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Romania thus went up to 73,617.

Most of the new cases were reported in Bucharest (228), Dolj (91), and Iasi (70). 

Separately from the new cases, a total of 624 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection.  

More than 1.56 million tests were performed in Romania so far, of which 24,307 in the last 24 hours. 

A total of 33,566 patients were declared cured so far, and 8,551 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis. 

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 3,106. A total of 32 deaths were reported between August 18 (10:00) and August 19 (10:00), in the age categories of 40-49 years (2 deaths), 50-59 years (6 deaths), 60-69 years (11 deaths), and 70-79 years (7 deaths), and 80+ years (6 deaths). Thirty of the patients had previous medical conditions. 

The number of COVID-19 patients treated in intensive care units was 480 on Wednesday, August 19. In total, 7,067 coronavirus patients are hospitalized. 

More than 9,800 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 5,603 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 27,776 people are under quarantine at home, and 9 are in institutionalized quarantine.
