Court rules that Romanian Post has to pay EUR 6.4 mln to British firm
The Romanian Post will pay EUR 6.4 million to a firm of the British group G4S for having terminated ahead of schedule a contract concluded in June 2006, reports local Profit.ro.
The postal operator has to make the payment following a final court decision. The Romanian Post already paid RON 10 million (EUR 2.2 million) to the firm G4S Secure Solutions before March 1.
The contract was concluded in June 2006 and signed by the Romanian Post’s general director Dan Mihai Toader, as well as by two other managers. In 2015, Toader was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison for abuse of office.
The contract with the firm G4S Secure Solutions provided the monitoring of postmen and postal operator’s cars through GPS equipment and the intervention, under the request of the Romanian Post. It was concluded for five years with the possibility to extend it for another five years.
In November 2009, Romanian Post’s representatives sent to G4S the notification that it planned to terminate the contract. Towards the end of 2010, G4S asked in court for the partial termination of the contract and to oblige the postal operator to pay for invoices of RON 15 million, as well as for the loss of profit due to the termination of contract.
