Current IMF deal, the last one for Romania, says minister

20 May 2014

Romania’s current financial agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission is definitely its last, said the country’s minister delegate for budget, Liviu Voinea, quoted by Agerpres.

The loan agreement expires mid-2015. Romania started out with a EUR 20 billion loan in 2009, and draw on all the funds, then had a smaller, EUR 5 billion agreement in 2011, which was a cautionary one, money was not cashed in.

The third agreement was inked in 2013, some EUR 4 billion, again a cautionary loan.

For Romania, this was the tenth agreement with the IMF in the last 23 years. The first agreement came two years after the fall of communism.
