American historian Larry Watts will launch his most recent book 'With Friends Like These: The Soviet Bloc's Clandestine War against Romania' on November 12 at the Anthony Frost Bookshop from 17,00 hours (45 Calea Victoriei St).

The Bucharest court has approved the insolvency of the Armonia Braila shopping center owner Red Project Three, a company of the Red real estate development group. The shopping center was closed down in August 2009, after only several months from opening, due to unsatisfying results. At the time, the developer was announcing plans to reposition the project and turn into into a discount-oriented one. It was expected to re-open in 2011.

US micro processors producer Intel will open its first software development center in Romania, which will also be the first such unit in Europe. The company will offer more details in a press conference next week.

Omer Tetik, the first vice-president of Credit Europe Romania Bank, will become the bank's president and head of the Administration Council, replacing Murat Sabaz, who will stay in the bank's board. The replacement decision will be submitted to the bank's shareholders' approval on November 16.

Charles Arizmendi is the new Chief Operations Officer of BitDefender, the company has announced. Arizmendi, with 20 years of experience in sales, has been working for Microsoft until recently, where he coordinated sales, marketing and programs for the Central and Eastern Europe.

World-renowned Romanian-born pan flute performer Damian Draghici will play on November 12 at the Sala Palatului in Bucharest, from 20,00 hours, at the 'Jazz in the City' event organized by Bright Light. Jazz singers Diane Schuur and Eddie Daniels will also play in the event. Draghici will play for the first time on an electronic pan flute which was built especially for him.

Health care companies have been among the most active tenants this year, mainly for the office segment, according to a recent analysis by DTZ Echinox. Their weight in the office take-up doubled one year to the other. In 2009, the medical services segment had a 7 percent share of the net leased office area during that year, but went up to hold 15 percent of the leased offices in 2010.

Carpet company Desso will supply carpet for 40,000 sqm of offices in the new Petrom City office project, Desso has announced. The area which will be covered by carpet is the size of six football courts put together. “It is a significant project for us, as it expresses our commercial performances in Poland and in the Eastern Europe,” said Wojciech Chorobik, director with Desso Romania.

Xerox has appointed Gabriel Pantelimon general manager of Xerox Romania and the Republic of Moldova, the company has announced. Pantelimon will replace Petr Sichrovsky, who will return to the Czech Republic but will not stay with Xerox, according to Romanian media.

Emanuele Butta is the new executive vice-president in charge of retail with UniCredit Tiriac Bank, pending on the approval from the Romanian Central Bank (BNR). Butta will replace Zoltan Major, who will hold a regional position with the UniCredit group.
