Daimler opens the EUR 300 mln factory in Romania

German group Daimler will officially inaugurate its new gearbox factory in Sebes, central Romania, on April 4.

The group has invested EUR 300 million in this new factory, whose construction started in 2014. Some 500 people work in this new factory that will produce advanced automatic gearboxes for Mercedes-Benz cars.

The gearboxes that will be produced at Sebes, 9G Tronic, are among the most advanced in the world and equip premium cars such as the Mercedes-Benz E-class.

Star Transmission, Daimler’s local subsidiary that operates the new plant, started its operations in Romania in 2001, when it opened a factory in Cugir that produced gearbox and engine components. In 2013, the company opened another unit in Sebes, which produces automatic gearboxes.
