Dalai Lama might visit Romania next year

22 September 2015

Romanian entrepreneur Simona Baciu, the founder of Transylvania College in Cluj-Napoca, has invited the Dalai Lama to visit Romania and Cluj-Napoca next year. The Babes-Bolyai University and the Romanian-American Chamber of Commerce are to make the official invitation.

Simona Baciu recently returned from a trip to India where she met the Tibetan spiritual leader.

“In September, I had the honor of meeting the Dalai Lama in India. I’ve mentioned our mindfulness programme at Transylvania College and invited him to visit us in Cluj-Napoca and come to Romania. He was very open and his answer was affirmative, saying <<Yes, I want to come in Romania>>,” Baciu said in a Facebook post.

A Romanian delegation of 25 people was in India for four days this September. They’ve attended an event on the Dalai Lama’s lessons, visited sacred places, attended prayer services officiated by Buddhist and Tibetan monks, and met the Dalai Lama in person, reports local Mediafax.

Transylvania College’s mindfulness programme is the only such program implemented in a school in Romania. It aims to teach students how to think positive, to reflect on things, and to have an attitude of compassion, of empathy for those around them.

Transylvania College is a private school in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, founded in 1993. IT currently has more than 600 Romanian and foreign students.
