Damen wins contract with Germany to build vessel in Galati
The Damen Galati shipyard, one of the biggest in Romania, has signed a contract with Germany’s Federal Office for Agriculture and Food for the construction of a vessel.
The vessel, which will be called Walther Herwig, will be used for fisheries research and should be completed by January 2020. It will support Germany’s fisheries and oceanographic research programmes.
Walther Herwig will be the largest vessel in the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s fleet.
Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards Group operates 33 shipbuilding and repair yards. It employs 9,000 people worldwide.
