Damian Draghici to play electric pan flute for the first time at ‘Jazz in the city’ concert
World-renowned Romanian-born pan flute performer Damian Draghici will play on November 12 at the Sala Palatului in Bucharest, from 20,00 hours, at the 'Jazz in the City' event organized by Bright Light. Jazz singers Diane Schuur and Eddie Daniels will also play in the event. Draghici will play for the first time on an electric pan flute which was built especially for him.
Tickets for the event cost from RON 80 to RON 200 and can be bought online from Eventim.ro here or from Sala Palatului, Germanos, Orange, Vodafone, Domo and Humanitas stores.
Damian Draghici has gained international recognition as a pan flute performer. His unique triple-tongue staccato technique allows him to play three times faster than the average pan flutist - hence his nickname, "The Speed of Light."
Draghici clandestinely left Romania in 1989, when he was 18 and managed to get a scholarship at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 2001, he performed at the Night of the Proms (in picture and video below). In 2006, he started the Damian & Brothers Filarmonika Romanes Band, which played Romani music.
Vocalist and pianist Diane Schuur Born in Tacoma, Washington, in 1953 is a longtime disciple of Dinah Washington and other legendary jazz singers of the ‘40s and ‘50s. Schuur, who was blind from birth has built a stellar career and received numerous awards, among which two Grammy Awards and three Grammy nominations. Her latest album is called 'Some Other Time' and was launched in 2008.
