International Tennis Federation offers Davis Cup Commitment Award to Romania’s Horia Tecau
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) will award Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau for his long-standing dedication to representing his home country, according to a statement of the Romanian Tennis Federation.
ITF will give the award on Friday, July 15, before the opening ceremony of the Davis Cup match between Romania and Spain.
The Davis Cup Commitment Award was conceived as part of the ITF’s 2013 Centenary celebrations and was launched at the 100th Davis Cup Final in 2012. ITF gives the award to tennis players who have competed in a minimum of 20 home or away ties or 50 ties at any level of the competition (including Zone Group Events) over their career.
Horia Tecau is the sixth Romanian tennis player who receives this award. Since his debut in Davis Cup in 2003, he has played 20 matches for Romania and had 12 wins in doubles.
The other five Romanian players are Victor Hanescu, Ilie Nastase, Andrei Pavel, Florin Segarceanu, and Ion Tiriac.
Marius Copil, Adrian Ungur, Horia Tecau and Florin Mergea will play for Romania in the Davis Cup match against Spain. The encounter will take place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, on July 15-17.
