The heavy rains registered in some areas in Romania on Tuesday night (May 26) caused floods in Maramures and Salaj counties.

Six villages in Maramures county, northern Romania, were affected by these recent floods, reports local Mediafax. Authorities started to evacuate the people whose houses were flooded.

According to Anton Rohian, Maramures county prefect and president of the County Committee for Emergency Situations, the water got in 60 homes and households, but the number could increase to 70.

The situation is even worse in Salaj county, where 31 villages were affected by floods. Authorities evacuated several people and closed two schools.

Hydrologists issued a code red warning for floods in Salaj, Maramures and Satu Mare counties in Romania. The alert is available until Wednesday, May 27, 14:00.
