03 May 2017

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) expects a slowdown in Romania’s economic growth this year and the next.

However, the country’s economic growth will remain remarkable in the region, according to EBRD.

"Despite the fiscal stimulus measures this year, we expect a slowdown in the economic growth in Romania," said Roger Kelly, chief economist for Romania and Bulgaria within the EBRD.

According to him, Romania will face budget deficit problems. The country could remain within a budget deficit limit of 3% if it cuts investments in the second part of the year, according to EBRD. The estimated budget deficit for this year amounts to 3.6%.

Last year, the country saw an economic growth of 4.8%.
