EBRD seeks new projects to finance in Romania

19 March 2019

A high-level delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) arrived in Bucharest on March 18 for a three-day visit during which it will hold talks with Romanian authorities and the business community.

The delegation is headed by Jurgen Rigterink, First Vice President, and Alain Pilloux, Vice President of Banking, and the discussions will focus on the investment climate, ways to boost EBRD funding in Romania, develop infrastructure and attract foreign investment in the country.

“The EBRD will continue to invest in Romania, including through corporate finance, public-private partnerships or project finance funding in infrastructure, privatization of state-owned companies and support for small and medium-sized enterprises. I look forward to talks with the Government on business reforms to unlock Romania's investment potential,” Rigterink said.

The EBRD is a leading institutional investor in Romania and to date has invested over EUR 8.3 billion in the country. In 2018 alone, it committed over EUR 400 million across various sectors of the Romanian economy.

The visit will provide an opportunity to introduce Mark Davis, who will start his new position as Regional Director for Romania and Bulgaria based in Bucharest on April 1, 2019.
