EC approves EUR 47 mln grant to repair Craiova-Calafat road in Romania
The European Commission (EC) has approved a grant of EUR 47 million to upgrade the road Craiova-Calafat road in Romania. The road is part of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) and is the only connection between Craiova and the Calafat-Vidin bridge, which links Romania and Bulgaria.
The DN56 Craiova-Calafat national road revamping will consist in repairing an 80-km section of this road that connects Craiova and Calafat, in the south-west of Romania.This is close to the site of the US anti-missile shield at Deveselu, in South - Western Romania.
The European Union will finance the project through the European Regional Development Fund, with EUR 47 million. The total investment in the project amounts to EUR 55.4 million. A total of 270 jobs are expected to be created.
The EU allotted Romania cohesion funds of EUR 19.7 billion between 2007 and 2013.
