EC ready to give Romania EUR 150 mln for three regional hospitals
The European Commission attributed Romania EUR 150 million to build three regional hospitals in 2015, but the local authorities haven’t even decided yet where the hospitals would be located, said European Commissioner for Regional Policies Corina Cretu.
However, Romania’s Development Minister Vasile Dincu said that the authorities had chosen the locations, and that the delays were due to the lack of consensus among local authorities, reports local Mediafax.
The European Union has allocated Romania EUR 500 million for the healthcare sector in the 2014-2020 programming period, and EUR 50 million for each regional hospital, Cretu said. The investments, however, can’t be carried out because the European Commission hasn’t yet received the map of the local medical service infrastructure. This should present Romania’s needs in the healthcare sector.
“I’ve learned that the Government has committed with the World Bank to make these studies and I hope that we can start investments as soon as possible,” Cretu added.
